Is a 4' Brush Hog Too Small

I have a chance to get a 4' Ford Brush Hog for $200.00. Now I don't realy need it but it would be nice to be able to mow the road in our hunting camp, once a year. But is it too small? Maybe I could hook-up a couple old Toros to each side and make it bigger. Anyway, will I regret buying it and always wish I had waited for something bigger.

Your thoughts appreciated.

Zed

Sounds like you don't need a pretty bush hog, or one that will be able to survive hundreds of hours of work a year. So, I'd pass on the 4' and wait for a bigger one. I think 4' is rather narrow, leaving the tires hanging over your cut path. I also don't think $200 is a terribly good price for a 4' hog. I'd watch the auctions and pay less for a larger one that isn't pretty.

I had a 4' Bush Hog on my 1939 9N years ago, I thought it was about all it could handle, than I bought a 7' rear mounted hay mower and was real happy, no more rock flying through the air, I could cut more than twice the swath because with the hog I sometimes had to take only half a cut.
then again the bush hog ground it all up but I felt safer.
After I overhauled the engine, I went back to a 5' bush hog, it handled it just fine then, plus I upgraded the PTO shaft to 1-3/8.

I have a 4' BushHog brand medium duty cutter, and
it is a good match for my tractor, I have some
hilly ground here in GA and going up a slope in thick/tall grass is about all it can do, downhill or on the level I could probably use a 5'.

4' is OK for some things. Being narrower than wheels makes sure you won't hang up on trees.
You can always sell it as that sounds like a great price for it.
