Hey gents, got a 2n with the sherman high/low trans with an 8n stamped motor.

What manual should I get?? Looking at the manuals section on this site and they are different, does that mean I should get both??

As best as I can tell so far, the only bit that is 8N is the motor, but the fact discovery mission is young. Certainly has 2n brakes and trans, is there a good way to confirm the diff, hydro and PTO?? Does that even matter?? Thanks.

You ask a very good question. Though the 9N/2N and 8N engines are basically the same, it is the other parts that vary. All 9N, 2N, and early 8ns used the same front-mount distributor set up. The electrical systems changed from 9N/2N to the 8N so manuals will help determine what you have now and if 6v or12V needs to be looked at as well. 9N/2N models had a 3-speed tranny, 8N had a 4-speed and the I&T has Sherman info as well. You probably have a Step-Up, maybe a Hi-Lo Combo. Also, 9N/2N models only have DRAFT CONTROL built in, no side handle. The 8N would have POSITION CONTROL and the extra handle on RH side by the seat. These are the important things to know. My advice is to get as many manuals as you can, at least the I&T F-04 Manual, the 39-53 MPC, and the Operator/Service Manuals. You'll then have all the info on both for reference.

You can never have too many manuals...with the I&T F-04 Manual and the 39-53 MPC, you will have much needed info on all models. Original MPCs and the others are bonuses as well.

Thanks for the help gents, sorry but my simple mind is having a hard time reconciling some things.

In the manuals section on this site there are different product codes for the three models:
9N - FO4_6368
2N - FO4_5792
8N - FO4_6312

Same story on the other manual:
9N - 39FTMPC_6370
2N - 39FTMPC_5794
8N - 39FTMPC_6313

Even the descriptions list different numbers of pages, too many decisions, just take my money!!

Thanks again.
