My first 8n 1949

Hi all this is my first post and my first ownership of an 8n..when I first purchased it, it had a trip handle front end loader on it, the tractor needed a lot of TLC. I took loader off and decided to go through it completely. So far I've changed plugs, rebuilt carb, changed transmission fluid, and now getting ready to do points and oil change. The oil pressure is really good on this one (35psi at start up idle) with no smoke or blow bye. Before I brought it home I had new tires and tubes put on in the front, sadly I will be needing rear tires sooner or later.
The old tractor will be getting an amateur rattle can paint job this spring. I plan on using it plow up and disc my garden, mow and push snow. So far so good. I've learned a lot just by doing Google searches on anything I wanted to know about it...and this site kept popping up with the answers I needed..so I now you all have to put up with me... :D

Welcome to the site and to 8n ownership. I think you will find it to be a fun tractor to have and also really handy.

"The p/o converted it to 12 volt positive ground "

It's been covered 1000's of times, but just make sure you know - on a front mount distributor N, after you remove the coil and cap, you
remove the distributor (2 bolts). Pay attention to which way the rotor is pointing, it will make it easier to reinstall it. PS - it can only
go on one way.

thanks for the replies fellas! I kinda like the old tractor...I need to install points... So thanks for the tips on that. I have a question about the hydrolics...I changed the fluid and I overfilled by a little, now the 3 point lift seems to be a little jerky, is there a way to drain some of the fluid, without draining all of it? On that same note, I read that the hydrolics should use about 5 gallons, I have 4 and a half and it seems way Over full. I removed the front drainplug, the rear I couldn't get off, so I removed the small one on the bottom right hand side instead. How I'd the hydro fluid sposed to be checked? Lift up or lift down? Thanks again for a great site!
