Have removed a couple dozen blocks and sleeves. Some are a cake walk and some not so easy. This one in the shop now was a monster. Apprently pre-owner had put lock tight or something on them when installed. These were cast. I have a 20t press with 18" mouth. Worked engine into press and had them out in less than half hour. Though you might like to know this if you run into this situation.

The Loctite/Permatex product data sheet describes how to easily break the ~3000 PSI bond.

For Disassembly:

1. Apply localized heat to the assembly to approximately 250 °C. Disassemble while hot.

Have not tried this myself but have heard that running a bead around the liner will cause it to shrink and make for easier dismount.

I made the stupid mistake of putting locktite on a truck water pump shaft before trying to press the 2 part seal onto the shaft. I almost blew it but stopped when the half inch plate underneath started bending,

Spent a couple of minutes wondering why the seal was taking so much force to install (with the special installer). My friend there started talking about machine clearances and incorrect sizes, but suddenly dawned on me what had happened and I was amazed at the power the locktite had in tight clearances. Luckily I got away with it and the pump is in my 3 ton International and doing fine. First water pump I ever rebuilt.

I have removed a plenty and own some nice tools to do it... I send them to my machine shop guy and let him deal with it now... I send him the piston/sleeve kit he installs and fits them a done deal... I don't do the valves/seats any more other than assemble them no way in ell I can match his work...
It would be different if I had nuttin else to do are just wanted to know how to do it... Like you I have ran into issues its just not worth my time to deal with them...

We have been doing ours that way for many years. I have a special press that was built by a local Ford dealer, I have all the plates for the different bores. It has a very long stroke. Can push them out and back in one setting.
