My brother-in-law has a Jetstar he has had trouble with over the years with the power steering. At first it would turn easy to the right and not to the left. Now when he starts turning to the right and it dang near Rips the steering wheel out of his hand. And when it comes to the end of the travel it lugs down the engine. He has bypass the power steering and just uses Armstrong steering. He uses the Tractor frequently so he s getting kind of sick of it not working properly. he has tried to adjust it but he thinks he just made it worse. Are there parts available for this or does he have to try and find a used one? He seems to think it might be the actuating lever. Is this a common problem? And is it repairable?

OK, thanks guys for the information. I hope to see him this weekend and I will pass along the information. He is retired now so he should have some more time to work on the tractor. I am also retired and I have less time now than I did when I was working!

I had to clean the Control and Damper valve assembly and replace O rings on my 4Star a number of years ago. As I recall it was messy but not difficult. I followed the procedure in the I&T Manual beginning on previous page to what you have shown. I got O rings from local farm supply store.

A pressure gauge is necessary for this but they are not expensive

Pay attention to valve centering on third column of previous page.

If you get the hydraulic lines reversed it will go rapidly in one direction and you may not be able to turn it back.

Mine also had oil leakage where the steering wheel shaft went into control body. It was cause by leaky O rings in steering piston. I had to rebuild that also. Again messy..follow IT manual procedure

Yes, the actuating pin and bushing is a place to start. Maybe the valve its self is hanging up. You can try and loosen the 4 cap screws that hold the valve on and try and adjust it some while someone is turning the steering wheel. If it improves tighten the screws and recheck. You don't have to loosen the 4 screws much, just enough to move the valve.
