Clutch update. 1950 R, clutch was not releasing. Wound up splitting it today and found the transmission input shaft seal was leaking pretty bad but it was not running out the hole in the bottom of the bell housing. Puddled bad enough oil ran out at the split. 5 inch pile of grease underneath the locking collar Im guessing had the hole plugged. It appears the flywheel was running in enough oil to get up on everything clutch related and the fiber from the friction disc in the oil mixed up to make a hard, thick layer of crap that was not letting the disc release, hence we kept rolling when we werent supposed to. Looks like they kept slipping the clutch to keep it from locking in and staying there cause Im down to rivets on both sides of the disc. For a tractor that sat for 20 years that should not be. We got a plan, should be fine once I find another disc or get mine fixed. Thanks for your input. DP

That's good to know. I may need to order something from him also.

Is Charlie still around? He used to post here occasionally, but haven't heard from him for a while.

Try Charlie Biller, Moline Parts724.628.7310. I know he has the compression spring for all the other hand clutch tractors, but never asked about the ones for an R.

THANKS FOR THE UPDATE. Be sure to double check your release springs. They need to be all the same length and good and stiff. Otherwise you will have a jumpy clutch. on other models with compression springs I always put in new ones. I haven't had much experience with the style clutch in an R.
