Original color of starter and generator PG. Why are most repaints done black? To me black was only rebuilts.

You are correct. I think most all factory equipment tractors were painted on the tractor. But in the late 30s when starters were first made available dealers were putting on kits furnished by MM as a dealer installation and the starters and generators were all black from Delco-Remy. Any later tractor you see with black equipment was done by the owner or re-builder. I agree with you the black don't look right unless it was an early lettered tractor.

For 39 R cab .. Brochures don't show any black.

Maybe when you bought it with a cab in that time frame, it also came with electronics.

Originally had no electrics. Was added later.
