Looks like we need a new topic to talk about

When things get a little quiet on the page, it seems like a good time to hear about peoples recent purchases or projects. I have not bought anything in almost a year so let's see what everyone else has been gathering to work on.

I have been working on a Jetstar 3 industrial transmission and clutch for a year and a half. Its in a Brickbuggy, the guy before me used it in his business, I actually chased it for 20 years. The grease fittings for the throwout bearing and shaft are buried in the framework. It must have never been greased because it took out the bearing, input shaft and the reverser parts associated with it. Now trying to get the input shaft shimmed, as well as the rearend case to the transmission case as that sets the pinion to the ring gear. such fun!

I've got a reverser assembly that spun a bushing in one of the gears. I may be interested in some parts but have to figure out what all is bad first.

I got a 1950 R that wants to keep the clutch engaged after I pop the lever back. Everything l can see
through the service cover appears to be working alright. The only thing Ive tried is tightening it up 2
notches and that made it worse.

Before I did anything Id pull the lever back and it go another 5-10 feet before the clutch actually
popped loose unless I applied brakes, then it would turn loose. Tractor sat the biggest part of 20 years
before I got it so Im guessing something I cant see is rusted and making stick. Im open for
suggestions cause its not safe the way it is right now DP

I can tell you that if you do not shim the front cover to obtain end play, it'll eat the end of the fine splined Shaft in the REVERSER

Working on a 1961 M5 that sat outside for nearly 20 years. Got it running, now just doing all the little things to make it field
worthy so I can use it.

Do what molinegb said that will polish the plate surfaces.
the other thing that might be a problem is the splines on the shaft and in the clutch plate might be rusty and not sliding on the shaft to release quickly. Get in there with a penetrant spray can with a spout on it. aim at the center of the shaft rotate 180 and do again. Only a couple of squirts. Each side. Don't want to get on the clutch surface.( a little won't hurt).

Thanks Del, I tried what gb said and it helped a little bit. Try the penetrating oil next. Aint afraid to split
it but dont really want to. Or someone could just buy it from me. It is for sale

I guess I am not that someone to buy it. I have six of them. But I would like to have a CAB "R". Good luck with the penetrant.

The penetration oil didnt work. It acted like it was going to but the more I engaged and disengaged the
clutch, the more it wanted to stick. Squirt a little more on today and try again tomorrow. DP

Can you loosen the clutch so it won't move with the lever engaged?? Possibly with the brakes on. Let it run for a time (unless it starts smoking). I know space is limited but you might try a long slim punch or rod, go in from the back of the clutch to the front next to the shaft till you get against the disc hub, and rap on it with a hammer. SHAKE IT UP SOME!!!

I feel your pain

My Dad said to get stuck stuff loose you had to disturb the molecules. Whether it be penetrating oil, heat, percussive presuasion or a combination of all these and possibly a good cheater pipe if you got room for one. Ill give it a whirl. Thanks Del. DP

I know you can't swing a hammer in there. I just thought of some thing, maybe you can make a tool to fit on an air chisel??? It will be hard to keep it spot on the hub!
