1961 MM Jet Star Thermostat

Any body out there know where and how to install a thermostat in my Jet
Star??
Just finishing up a restoration and checked the shop manual and was
advised it went in the upper radiator hose
That's where I put it and while running the tractor it starts to over
heat. Pulled the upper hose and found the thermostat up inside the fitti
g for the radiator hose. Apparently the water pressure pushed it there.
Any ideas??

You need to put a clamp around the upper hose, clamping down on the t-stat body, to keep the thermostat from moving towards the radiator.

I always put a bleed hole through the t-stat (if it does not already have one) to eliminate the air bubble in the tube and allow water to circulate to the radiator. That allows the t-stat to see the actual water temperature coming out of the heads.

Be sure the sensor or bellows is pointed towards the engine. And like SW says be sure there is an 1/8 hole in the shut off valve so warm water can circulate to the radiator and open as soon as the engine gets up to temperature.

Thank you both for your insight. Never heard of drilling
a hole in the thermostat before but Im going to give it
a shot right after I get back from deer camp.
