G955 PTO Speed

We just bought a 1974 White/Oliver 1870 same as a MM G955. The PTO shaft is 540 at the back but it spins way to fast. It's like someone has it running on the 1000 gears inside. Can we slow it up by shifting something external or do we have to open the PTO gearbox up? Thanks,

Ask this on the Oliver site. I take it your tractor has the optional dual speed unit. Do you have an operators manual? If it was done right you can change it but most
farmers didn't do it right!

If I remember right the shifter is to the right of the oil
check plugs on the PTO housing. One bolt that locks the
shift and another that is the end of the shift rail.

As mentioned the Oliver guys could tell you for sure.
