MM UTS scale rust removal

I am repairing a MM UTS tractor that was my dad's. It hasn't been run in 10 years. I had the radiator re-cored an was noticing the pipe that goes between the thermostat housing and the heads has a lot of scale and rust inside it. I removed the pipe (not sure of the correct name) and got a lot of the loose scale out.
How clean does this have to be?
How do you clean it?

I will try to add a picture...

Thanks,
Bill

If you are worried about more flaking off you might be able to find a decent used one. I would have to check the parts book but a UB might be the same.

That's really scaled up. I'm not hung up on the wording but it's a manifold. Pipe works good.
Pre-MM engines here have almost been close to that.
*Oops, that's the outlet on top! Stat still in the upper?
A sand-blaster pointed inside the inlet? I've wanted to do that an inlet manifold/pipe here.
A soak for several days in evapo-rust or several days in molasses or in an electrolysis bath?
Please look into the cylinder blocks also for more scale and flush them best you can.
Look in the bottom water passages for scale too.
That would get warm if working any amount...

Use a length of steel cable with a frayed end attached to an electric drill. Work the spinning cable in and out of the manifold.

Yes, the manifold connects to the thermostat housing with a short piece of hose. The thermostat housing is cast and also flaking but I was able to clean it up pretty good.

The cylinder heads have some scale that I can see from the top where the manifold/pipe connects. I have used a shop vac to get some out. A lot of it was from the manifold/pipe...
Not sure how to get in the heads without removing them.

Thanks for your reply,
Bill

You better pull the block drains and flush well with a garden hose. Once engine is together I would fill with water, run some, then drain it. Might get some more of the sediment that way.

If you have that much crap in your system you better not run it as is. All of that scale will end up on the top of your radiator and you will have a tractor that will heat up and not cool properly. Take out the drain cocks and flush as much as you can like others said. BUT The best thing you can do after you flush as good as you can is is to reroute the water through a filter before it enters the radiator. For more info call 815 973 4970

Cleaning your engine inside with a pressure washer helps to gets the rust off.

You can clean the inside of this manifokd by lenghtening a drill wire brush. Just weld a rod to it.
