UB running super rich

My UB has been sitting for a few years. I took the carb apart and soaked it in carb cleaner for a few days, the put it back together with a new gasket kit. I also Cleaned the fuel tank and lined it. Got it started today, but it runs super rich with both the idle and load screw all the way in. Any advice on what to look for? I thought maybe the air cleaner was plugged up so I removed the hose from the carb to the air cleaner with no change.

Do you have good flow to carb? Probably plugged ports in carb. Need to all be fished out when carb cleaner used.

These guys will correct me if I am wrong, but is that carburetor one of those that the venturi can be put in upside down?

(I ran into that on an Allis Chalmers once.)

Also, did you make your own gasket, or use one from a kit? The bowl has to vent to the inlet somewhere, and if the hole is not in the gasket it won't.

Also, are you certain the main needle actually goes into the jet in the bottom of the carb and is not down beside it?

It is a TSX 67 carburetor isn't it? (Well, the plain U used a TSX 67. I don't know what came on a UB.)

And I wonder about the needle and seat for the float if free and half-ways in decent shape.
Will some carb cleaners destroy viton tipped needles?
I'd like to know when you nail the problem down.
Wouldn't plugged carb ports cause super lean conditions?
Just thinking out loud.
I have fuel-flow problems on the UTS here. A different story.

Float should be set at 5/16" between float and surface of carb. with gasket off. A piece of 5/16 key stock or round stock works good to measure this.

Are you certain you have the load side needle sitting in the seat? Those can be tricky to get properly aligned. If the needle was harder to turn in than you expected, the needle may have missed the seat and not be regulating the fuel flow.

Been there, done that.

no way it can run with the main needle closed. so u have a problem to look for there. what about the float level and weight? it might be cracked and full of gas.
