Tractor pulling

Hello everyone I'm new to the site and just getting started with tractor pulling. I've got moline utu that I've pulled twice now and I'm looking for advice on how to get more power and get it to pull better. The engine is stock at the moment but I have a set of lp heads to put on it this winter. What else can I do to the tractor while maintaining the "stock appearance "? The tractor also weights 5850 at this time.

First off, are you wanting to pull farm stock? If so, then
the lp heads would still be okay. My UTS has high
compression heads and 4 3/8 pistons and pulls well. No
hanging weights and has to have stock hitch. If not, the
sky is the limit on what you can do to it. Local clubs have
rules, you might want to give them a call. NTPA website
has class rules and the clubs I pull with pretty much go
by them.

It's a farm stock class, stock appearing and stock hitch with no hanging weights. I think I'm still having issues with my governor as well, this year it ran great for about 80 feet and then just lost power and fell right on its face at 110 feet and never spun a tire.

Depends what farm stock means in your area. Where Im
at, stock means as it came from the factory. Not too far
away farm stock is akin to stock car racing.

That said, the first thing I would do is find someone that
has a dyno and figure out how healthy your engine is. It is
also a great way to tune your engine so it runs best.

Beyond that, how much do you want to spend to win
$20?

I have a 1950 UTU that I pull in the 5500, 6000, and 6500. I pull about 200 ft regularly in the 5500 and 6000, but in the 6500, I can only get about 185 ft. I went through the carb, water pump, and heads and got everything as clean as I could. Other than that, I was going to bore it out to 336 cu.in.

You can put m5 blocks and a G crank in your engine, and it will look stock still. Get your ignition and carb and governor rebuilt, that can make a huge difference. Lp heads , help alot. If you want to get crazy, a guy named Doug Henderson , in Michigan, can take your stock blocks and bore then to 5.25. Not cheap, but itll really wake up that tractor. Endless possibilities to make a U pull good. Also. No one in a stock class is on a totally stock tractor.
