KTA Water pump packing

My 1938 KTA is leaking at the shaft of the
water pump.
I can't tell by the manual what size
packing it takes.
I have some graphite rope that I could
try but I'm thinking the best would be a
square packing like 1/4.???

Well, if it was me here, I would put some of what I had in there on top of whatever is left and see what happens.

I used graphite packing used on oilfield pumpjacks. On some of older pumps new shaft has to be made if pitted bad.
