M670 Super Water Pump

1969 M670 Super Water Pump. Manual says to check/change lubrication. There is BOTH a filler plug in the pump body and a grease zirk above it. I see the manual says to use high-quality water pump lubricant. It goes on to say Two gun strokes should be sufficient. Obviously, they are talking about a grease gun and the grease zirk. 1) What type of grease should I (or can I) use? 2) What is the separate filler plug used for? I assume it's like lubricating a gear box, but need some guidance here please. Thank you!

Any all purpose grease a just for shaft. Too much may damage ceramic water seal. Is an oil seal towards block. Make sure weep hole is open and clean.

I appreciate your reply. Thank you. Can you tell me what the filler plug located on the side of the pump body is for?

It's not a filler plug. On an LP fueled tractor a water tube goes from the water pump to the vaporizer to keep it at engine temp. A fitting replaces the plug that a flared fitting attaches to.
