My sons R sits in my machine shed, but the front end dropped out all of its grease onto the floor,Hes not feeling good,so its going to be up to old dad, to get that fixed, whats all involved?

Are you putting to much oil in it. The pedestal is cast with a tray in the top of it to hold oil. If you bounce the front end up and down oil will spill out of the tray and run down the pedestal. The seal at the bottom is just a felt ring. I put 90 wt gear lub in my R and I do not fill it all the way full. If the worm gear get a little lub on it it will be ok. I would not worry about it till it quits leaking. Then I'd put more oil in it. My dad bought a R in 1941 and it is still in the family. The tractor has went thru 4 sets of tires and never had to work on the front end.

Ok, it has sat in their about 8 years, and last year the front two tires were sitting in grease, so it started leaking with out warning, it looked worse than it was, put down some floor dry, got it jacked up in front, but like you say it looks heavy built! Would you think corn head grease in their would be ok?

Im not sure I would use corn head grease in them. The upper bearing on the vertical shaft needs lube. Im not sure corn head grease would do it.

The thick oil is not going to Soak thru the felt seal over night. I'd see if I could get new seals before I'd tear it down.

If you over grease the fitting on the bottom of the pedestal it will help to keep the 180 fluid from coming out the bottom.
