Does a mmb916a shifter boot fit a ZA? Their dimensions are 9/16 top hole and a 2
1/16 bottom. Seem awfull tight fit since I measure 3/4 tires top x 2 3/8 ID of the
groove.

Hate to have to cut on a new one to fit.

Thanks

I wouldn't cut on the hole where the shift lever goes through. It needs to be really tight or water and dirt will go in. And that's why you need a shift boot in the first place. That is why the hole is so small.
Sometimes you need to lube it with silicone or your favorite rubber friendly lubricant to get it to slide.

Back in the 90s, the local Deere dealer sold a boot that worked fine and was a little bigger than the original boot. (That was back when the oldest parts guy could just bring you what he thought you wanted without a model or part number.) The one on the ZB is still going strong about 25 years later.

The last one I got for mine was from MMDEL on here. If I remember correctly he said to turn them inside out and use dish soap on it for installation. When you get it towards the bottom flip it over the groove. They can be a pain.

x2 on the dish soap. Another thing that helps is to throw it in a pan of really hot water for a few minutes. That expands it and also softens it up, making it easier to work with, especially when turning it inside out. Then put some dish soap on it, and also on the shift lever itself--then slide 'er on.

What Alan and Rich said is correct Silicone or rubber lubricant will work to. That hole will stretch needs to keep the water out. I have the right boot $12.00
