One wire alternators

My G1000 Vista is charging way high, 50 -60 amps. People tell me to replace with a one wire alternator and do away with the voltage regulator. Anyone have any experience? What do you do with all of the extra wires?
Thanks in advance.

My self I would use a Delco 10si 3 wire and that way it will charge at low rpm and you don't have to spin it up to high RPM just to make it start charging. They are easy to wire up. Same alternator a Chevy pickup from 1980 uses

Have better success repairing original rather than internal regulator ones. Have internal ones on 2270 and Massey 97 and always rebuilding.

A 10SI three wire alternator has a one large terminal and it goes to the battery or ammeter if you have one. There is also a #1 terminal and a #2 terminal. Number 2 just needs a jumper to the large terminal and number 1 needs to be hooked to the key switch so it turns power off to it when you shut the tractor off or it will drain the battery. Number 1 can also hook to an alternator idiot light and then you need power from the keyswitch to the second wire on the idiot light. This light will let you know if the alternator is charging or not.

On a diesel just run the wire from the alternator to the hot side of battery some where, tape off all the other wires.I'm running one wire alternators from DB Electrical on about 10 tractors and they do NOT run the battery down. The ones that run the battery down are 3 wire units converted to 1 wire by people that do not know what they are doing.

Nobody said anything about a 1 wire draining the battery. I said you have to run the #1 terminal to a switch on a 3 wire or it will drain the battery.
