Twin City KTA - correct plug No.

When I bought my 1938 KTA in April it had Champion W-14 plugs in it.
Since then I've been told the correct plug is a Autolite 3076 or Champion W89D.
So will the W-14 work?

the W89D plugs are used in the gas start ih diesels. they are along reach plug so better be careful before trying them to make sure they dont get smacked by the piston. i cant confirm that. if you use a w14 in them it makes for a very hard start. i actually dont think they are used in your case. need to check with a dealer like napa or such place.

Champion poor plug. Not hot enough. Have had brand new ones that wouldn't start a U unless towed. No good for magneto and hand crank.

talking about using w14 in the ih gas starts not in your tractor, as i am sure u are fine.

huh, thats all i have in my 3 U's, them things start soon as the engine turns over and fires once. so u must have wierd champ's. ?

Fought a whole week with fresh rebuild and crap Champions. Never will ever use in anything again. Use Autolite in all My U's KTAs GT's and Twin Cities. Had same issues with a 39 ZTS. Soon as I see Champions they go in garbage along with Blue Streak points.

send them all to me. i will pay shipping. i am a fan of blue streak , not that echlin junk.

By that way, if you put plug adapters in it you can use any brand plug you want to. They do not change the reach of the plugs.

Been through many MM's Echlin makes best points for MM. Had brand new Blue Streak never worked out of box. Run Echlin in all my working tractors and never had an issue. Might get couple days out of Blue if lucky. Never heard a good word about Blue. Every here swears at them. I buy old NOS Echlin.

The best overall plug is a Autolite 3077. I use in my 12-20,17-28,KT,KTA. They are discontinued. Has a dual electrode setup and longer electrode designed for low compression distillate motors. KTA around 4.5 to 1 unless has updated gas HC head at 5.5. All mine usually start with two flips of hand crank and if not something wrong. Had Champions in my 1939 UTS with fresh motor.

i find it odd tractor color and point brands dont mix. hummm, maybe paint the tractor different color.

I've had poor luck with Champs sometimes in the past. Not so much anymore. Work good. Depends.
Gas start IH Diesel. 89's been in there for 35 years and never cleaned one. Vroom!
Oh gosh, try your 14's when the time comes. The engine will tell you if they'll cut the mustard or not.
I've got some W-18's around here, maybe still in a 17-28. Work good!
Autolite 3077's if you can snag them. One of the 17-28's here doesn't like cooler 3076's.
Maybe your K will like whatever you put in the holes. Just depends on the engine and magneto.
