1967 U302 Super. Drained lube from rear end for a repair. Gonna need to replace it. Manual says 10 gal SAE 80 EP. My biggest concern regarding the lube is everything I see at the store is 80/90 EP GL5 or 80/140 EP GL5. From browsing the internet I see some saying GL5 is not recommended in some applications.
2nd concern is I got no where near 10 gal out of it. Thinking there is another drain plug on trans somewhere.
Thinking I may need to order it but the GL 5 concerns me....if not GL 5 then what? GL4...3....2?

There is only one drain plug. If you didn't get 10 gal. out of it it must have been low. SAE 80 has not been available for years. 80-90 is the replacement. GL 5 is fine and will cause no problem and is a better oil. I have used it in my U-302 Super since it was new and that's what the dealer sold for it. When refilling make sure to fill both front and rear compartments. If you don't have an owners manual you should get one. It explains the process. There are 2 fill plugs and 2 level plugs.

seems to me if there are 2 level plugs and 2 fill plugs, there should be 2 drain plugs. don't have a 302 so not familiar with them, I'm not being critical, just learning.

You are correct. Drain plug for front (ampli-torc) compartment is on the left side ahead of the clutch pedal. Rear plug drains both transmission and differential. Have not done it for a few years and forgot. Senior moment!

Thanks. Appreciated. This tractor will probably get 1000 hrs put on it over the next 20 years so I was gaining it might matter even less. Something for my 80 yo dad to have fun with...me too of course I

Had the same problem with a Farmall C
I used Sae 80/90 gl5
Inspection oil next year , oil turn gray and had fretting of brass, bronze small chips in differential case . Smelled like sulphur.
Called Warren lubricant talked to their tech . He said that the gl4 and gl5 were ep with high sulphur . Sulphur will attach to bronze and under
heavy load fretting occurs.
So I drained it out and got Sae 90 Gl1 mineral oil from tractor supply and napa. Put that in there !
Anything brass or bronze they dont recommend gl4 or gl5 high sulphur .

Lots of changes from a Farmall C built in 1948-1951 to a 1960's tractor that we are talking about here.

Or is there real differences between?
I think 560 raises a quiet point, even tho comparing older red apples to newer Prairie Gold "oranges".
IF there's brass or bronze in a 60's U-302 Super, the GL-5 will start eating at it. Been talked about.
IF there is no brass/bronze in the 302 Super, then you have a valid point. :)
Perhaps he's suggesting we pay attention to transmissions, gear boxes or anything with brass/bronze inside and use a lower GL#.
:)

the problem with comparing the two is the 302 has a torque, it also runs off the same oil reservoir as the rear and trans, notrunning the proper oil may damage the torque

The amplitorc has its own drain plug on left side kinda by where the foot stirrup attaches to the bottom of the transmission case.

I found the drain plugs. I had removed the one under the rear end of the tractor. I also found the drain plug for the front compartment. below the clutch pedal. Here is my new hangup....I purchased the manual but the pictures where they show the drain and fill plugs is so dark i cant really see what they are pointing at. Pretty sure the level plug for the front is underneath the Ampli torc inspection hole. Not sure where the front fill plug is. Possibly the amplitorc inspection hole???? I also cant tell where the fill plug for the rear is. There is a 1 allen head plug right next to the shifter. Is that the rear fill hole?
I tell you guys what....I have done general maintenance on my cars, motorcycles etc since I was a kid (55 now). But not having grown up around tractors....this makes a guy feel pretty inadequate and I really do appreciate the help / advice. I am looking forward to watching Dad run this thing around the field soon....I will send pics when he does. (thinking I might enjoy it too......I know the theme from Green Acres will be running through my head lol)

There are two level plugs on the right side of the tractor. Both are sq headed pipe plugs. Front plug is below the ampli-torq inspection and adjustment hole. The Adjustment hole is where you fill it. Fill this first. The rear level plug is down by the brake lock. Fill this through large plug on top of the trans shiftier cover.
