We ended up getting the impeller off by grinding out the rusted cotter key. I also took the whole housing off to get to the oil seal. I also was able to get the screw out with an Allen wrench before removing the oil seal. We have the whole kit, one question I do have is: Do I need to resurface the packing gland? Because I have read multiple forums on some people leaving it alone and some people taking off .005. Any ideas or plans of attack would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all.

What are you calling a packing gland?? The U water pump does not have a packing gland. The only two places the water seal has to seal is where it mates inside the back of the impeller. Clean it good and if you want, put a little sealer on it. The other place is where it rotates on the bearing and oil seal housing. If you want a good seal and don't want to take it apart again. Put it in a lathe and clean that surface up and make it square and flat. Don't take off anymore that you have to. After you get it all back together again if it drips a little don't worry about it. It may have to run awhile for the two surfaces to mate and seal.

We ended up getting everything put back together and it didnt leak. There was an extra brass piece that wasnt supposed to be in there and it chipped away. That was what we thought was the packing gland. After further examination, reading the manual, and all the posts, I was able to get everything back together the correct way. She runs like a dream now 😁.
