max rpms for 504 diesel

Am wondering what the max rpms anyone is running with a 504 diesel. Is 3000 a bad idea. Currently have the engi.e turbocharged making around 25 psi boost with a p-pump and 330-340hp

I've went to 2800 but we spent plenty of the kids inheritance balancing and weighing parts. It has about 400 tach hrs not all at hi R's and it's still together bored .60 ovr non turbo. I would watch that boost. Let other people tell you but in my humble opinion that will hurt you on that engine

Have been running turbocharged for about 2 years tractor pulling and haven't had any problems to speak of. Engine was bored .060 over just before building it for pulling. Just would like a few more rpms to keep the turbo spooled.

I run 2800 on turbo charged 504 lpgas, with no problems so far.Been pulling it for 3 years now.

That sounds good. Do you know about how much power you are much power you are making. 2800 would give me a little more room. Do you have different valvesprings

The big difference here is LP vs. diesel. If you are still running the energy cells, then you won't be very productive @ 3000 rpm unless you really advance your timing. We tried running high rpm (2800-3000) with energy cells, and coming off the line, it just didn't run well, and needed more timing. However, as the load came on and rpm came down it really woke up and pulled great. The energy cell system just takes more time to happen compared to direct injection. I've spoken with a pump shop about it, and that's just the way it is. I'm not sure but I would think the amount of timing advance it would take to turn 3000 efficiently would hurt more than benefit, but I've been wrong before!

I agree lp is not the same as diesel in setting them up.We installed extra valve springs to keep from floating the valves, had it on the dyno 325hp at18lbs boost.

Yes i am still running the energy cells and i am not looking to make more power at higher rpm, just wondering if the engine will stay together. If it will then i will have a little more wheel speed and a be able to keep boost up for a little longer. If i cant turn more rpms then i will either put a little smaller turbo or run twin turbos. Wanted to hold off on the twins til i get the 585 in the next one.

I know this is a old post but im thinking about building a 504 LP with turbo for pulling. I seen this and was wondering if you could answer some questions for me? my cell is 270-849-7252. Thank you
