Minneapolis-Molines in Georgia or South Carolina?

Greetings everyone!

This is my first post here, but Im about 10 months away from finishing up my MBA at the university and Im looking for my first antique tractor.. specifically an RTU, ZTU or Z. My dad has an Oliver 66 and I thought the Minni Mo would be a different piece compared to all the Farmalls, John Deere, etc I see so much down here.

Although Im a few months away from being financially able to buy one, Im going ahead and beating the bush. Does anyone know of any of the above models sitting around in Georgia or South Carolina? Im hoping to find one with a free motor (not stuck), but still needing a light restoration. I figured thisll be a fun project to occupy someone whos used to piles of book work. Anyway, I know this is a shot in the dark, because theyre more common in the Midwest, but I appreciate any and all replies and I look forward to learning more on this forum in the coming year!

Happy thanksgiving!

I actually live In NC.

I am sure there are plenty of good running MMs still down in SC if you look around. Probably some in GA, too.

From my personal experience, however, all the real 'cream puff' restoration material trators come out of SC. Back in the 90s I bought four
of them.

Meaning that before you finally end up with a good running tractor you will have to turn plenty of wrenches on it to get it to that point.

One reason is that for nearly 30 years down here in the 'South' those tractors had practically no parts support. So they were patched and
ran until they just couldn't go any more.

What I would do if I were you, is ask around. You will probably find that there are more around than you think. It really used to bother
me to hear Oh yeah, I have a Minneapolis Moline. Its home in the shed from some guy who brought his 'green' tractor to park in the row
at a show with all the 50 other 'green' tractors.

Another shift I have seen in the last 25 years is that more parts (and tractors) are available now over the internet. So keep an eye on
Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist.

MM was widely sold in the Plains States and Upper Midwest with a small scattering elsewhere. Here in NY while there were dealers
you had to look hard to find one in the field. Fortunately, we live in 2021 and with the assistance of the internet finding a MM
should prove fairly easy. Then it is a matter of how close to home and what the trucking cost will be. Good luck.

Right! thats what Im having a hard time with.. I have found many in the Dakotas, Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, etc.. while I can afford the tractor, I doubt I could afford that shipping promptly after purchase considering the distance. I have a couple really good friends with trucks and trailers who said they would go and get it for me for a smaller fee, as long as it were here in Georgia or South Carolina (were right on the border). So hopefully one will come along.. I have been checking the internet and Facebook daily.

Right! Thats funny you say that because my motivation for getting a MM is because it would be the only prarie gold in a sea of red and green at the shows and parades.

I am right on the border of South Carolina and Georgia. My email is- [email protected]. If possible, send me an email and I can reply with my number.. I havent found any other MM collectors down south, so since Im starting to look, Id love to start networking with others on these tractors that are nearby in the south.

Thanks much.

The Z and its variations were probably the most widely sold MM tractor so that works in your favor. If you see one listed in OH, PA, or NY then it is time to make a move. Might be a very long time finding one in the SE USA

As suggested ,I would look on Craigslist here in Ohio ,Kentucky for example. , Im cruising Craigslist south fo trucks and tractors I dont see mini mo
much ,not to discourage you but , they are scarcer
Saw a beautiful z in teledo a few months back original condition , around 1500

(quoted from post at 08:50:38 01/24/22) Im in central Ky and know of a couple that are for sale. They would be closer than some.

How much are they asking?

You can text me prices at 706-680-5555, if possible?
