335 Specials

Hi All,

335 Special? I've not heard/seen of such a thing.
Please if anyone has more information on these, please let me/us know what was different about these from a 335 row-crop , utility, or industrial.

Sincerely,
Duane Kaufman

Does it have a date on it? Or any specs like RPM & weight?
I am wondering if they were made in both 1960 and 1961 or only in 1961.

They were all built as Utility models in '60 and '61. Fifty units were built in both years. 100 units total. There was nothing different about them from earlier 335s other than the "Special" decal under the 335 decal and they were painted two tone like the 4 Stars.

The story I was told indicated the dealers in the northeaster part of the country wanted something smaller than the Jet Stars to sale to vineyard and orchard farms. So MM built two runs of the 335 utilities.

I don't have a picture of ours on this compute or would post it.

Interesting topic. Like Duane, I have never heard of a 335 Special. Also didn't realize 335's were still being produced in 1961 so checked my serial number book and found the following: 1960- 0 universals, 50 utilities, 150 industrial. 1961- 0 universals,50 utilities, 0 industrial.

The b/w sales literature has no form # or date code but it came with the dealer order guide dated 11/1/60. Serial number lists are wrong. The Specials were all built in 1960 but a few of them didn't actually ship until January 1961. There were 2 batches of 50. The first batch was built October/November 1960 and the second batch was built December 1960.
