Sock filters

I had posted this question in another thread, but got no response. It was an older thread, so maybe all you 17th century classic boys may not have seen it.

Just curious about this, since the topic of oil filters comes up every so often, and since some of the cartridge filters we used to use are now being replaced by sock type filters.

I know none of us are a fan of the sock filter, and I'm not either. But I have to ask--Do they work, and is there a problem using them?

I don't understand why they discontinued the original style, but the other ones must work or they wouldn't be selling them.

Just asking for information only. My tractors have been converted to spin-ons, so I won't be using them. But just trying to learn something here.

All early tractor used a sock type filter in a canister. Either felt rings or packing unit element type filter came out. Can't see
there would be any difference. R/Z/U/G used. I still use the element type as long as my stock last. If forced to change will use
sock. Nothing uglier than a restored tractor with big ugly spin on.

Oil psi was getting low in my 37 ZTU. I took the crankcase cover off. Cleaned out 3 handfuls of sludge and put a spin on Chevy filter. Clean as a whistle and 50 Lbs.

I had responded on the 11th on the other thread about the NOT-available sock filters.
If I get a nice original '50 UTS home, can I be a part of your group?
Hehehe! You guys have a good weekend!
I'll fuss with details on my old Twin City 21-32 in the meantime that has a VERY-VERY similar oil filter... Under my rock.
I'll likely report about the Henry Leasing KE5905 filter elements when they come in Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.
