6-12 volt alternator conversion

I have a ZT with a car generator that doesn't fit right and no regulator. I got to thinking this might a good time to try to convert this 6v a 12 volt negative ground alternator system. I've shearched some, and watched some youtube videos, but they were all IH or ford, no MM. I see the biggest hurdle will be in finding an alternator that is small enough to fit under the air cleaner cup and frame, then making a mount for it. Has anyone found an alternator that would fit that space? I see Steiner's has one that is supposed to fit MM for 150, not ready to order that yet. Any ideas? thanks. Brian PS. Has anyone installed one of Steiner's in a Z?

The IH guys are always talking about an alternator that they use on an H which is smaller than the Delco one. I believe it's a Hitachi, but I don't recall the specifics. Maybe a check of the IH or Tractor Talk forums might yield more info.

I have used a Denso Mini alternator on several of my later MMs (Jet Stars). It is much smaller than a standard GM/Delco. They are often listed as a one-wire but I have needed to add a second exciter wire to all of my installations.

There is a small Delco that Ive used in the past. I cant remember what it fit, but I would think a good parts guy could figure it out.

(quoted from post at 10:44:47 07/07/21) A couple of times I've used a Hitachi from a 79 through early 80's Datsun/Nissan vehicle

"GOOGLE", "Amazon" or "ebay" search for "mini alternator" or "racing alternator", $35 and up!
