Hey folks, I used to own a good running MM BF and sold it to a coworker about two years ago, he told me this
afternoon that the starter drive (the shaft) had broken in the starter casing and that he couldnt find a replacement
anywhere, told him I would try to help locate another one before he junked the old tractor, can any of yall point me in the
right direction?

I am having the same problem with my starter in a BG.

I just bought a starter off Ebay (yes it is Chinese and looks like a Denso or Nippondenso clone) from the guy on Ebay that sells parts for the Olver OC-3 crawlers, which use the same Hercules engine. He says He has had one on his crawler for 3 years with no problems. Something like $345 with shipping and tax.

I don't have it mounted yet, so I cannot tell you first hand. The starter is here, The gear on it looks like it will work, diameter and tooth count are good. It is still in the box as I am also waiting for the radiator to get back from the radiator shop and I had to push the tractor outside while I did some other repairs for other people.

One concern that you may have that I didn't is that the BF steering shaft goes right over the starter. On the BG the steering shaft goes down the right hand side of the engine.

There was also an outfit in Michigan that was offering a similar but slightly different starter for a similar price.

I know $345 is a lot for a starter, but remember, the tractor is getting to be nearly 70 years old and we are lucky that someone still makes parts for them.

Ive seen those starters and thought they were a little pricey. Was hoping someone would chime in on a possible vehicle of the era the tractor was made and possibly find or cross reference a starter that would interchange. Let me know how your new starter works out

No I havent as I didnt know about him, Ill pass that number along to my coworker that owns the tractor now, thanks

Ten four, I dont have the tractor anymore, my coworker owns it and tractor is about 50 miles north of me. We just cant find any Moline parts in south Alabama as those tractors are very rare here

A BF is not really a MM but an Avery with Moline colors. Motor is a Hercules which was used in many other makes of tractors.
