Anyone got advice on how far the valves need to be seated into the head on a G-1000 diesel? Currently rebuilding one and have heard that if they are to deep it can make them not start good. Thanks

You might call Welters Farm Supply in Verona MO. They can tell you. They also advertise an oversize valve for those engines, that I think helps with the 'losing compression' problem.

who is doing this valve grind, you or the machine shop. to be totally in spec replace the seats and valves if they look that bad. yes valve recession is critical to any diesel engine for starting. as you know anytime the valve and seat is reground the valve will sit lower in the head. plus you need to look at the valve margin to make sure there is enough meat there to grind the valve. any machine shop will know all this info also, thats why i asked who is doing this work?
