'53 UB oil filter. Using my last one.

This has been discussed in the past, but not for a while. I am using my last metal canister oil filter on the UB. Want to change oil but not sure I want to shell out $40-85 for a replacement filter. Saw one on eBay for about $100, including shipping. The manual says the original number was KE5905. Anyone found a good, reasonable source for this filter? Thanks.

I changed my UB several years ago using a Carquest 85011 original style filter. (51011 WIX or 1011 NAPA) The numbers still show to be available but they are a sock filter.

There are also screw on adapters available to convert to a cartridge filter.

Have been wasting hours searching the web for the original-style metal canister replacement oil filter for the UB. Many folks have been down this road and it all leads to the same place. Either you go with the "sock-type" filter, which gets mixed reviews, or you get the conversion adapter and use the screw on filters. Nobody makes the original style filters anymore and the few original "dinosaurs" that are still around command "museum prices." Looking for a conversion adapter and a screw on filter that will be inexpensive and available for years to come.

Just to add what I have seen about the adapters: There are a number of them available for the UB on eBay. There are also a number of filters that work with the adapters. The "filter end" of the adapter for the UB is 1 1/8-16 thread. Does anyone know what the other end is? Cannot find this thread size anywhere. I think it is 13/16-16, not sure.

At one time Walter's Farm Supply in Verona, Missouri had reproduction filters. I put an adaptor from
MMparts.com on my UTS. It uses a carquest 85791.

There's a firm in Ireland that make screw on
conversions, so with the firm in Mid Wales who
stock many many thousands of filters you should
get sorted

Thanks for the reply. I think the adapter is the way to go. That way you can use any number of filters that should be easy to find for years to come. It will not be "original" looking, but this is not a show tractor.

Welters shouldnt, have any problem with supplying you with a filter. I bought the canister style last year for my ZA.

Thanks for the information. I may give them a call if the adapter and screw-on filter option does not meet expectations. Just do not want to be hunting around again if Mr. Welter decides to "call it a day" and retire.

Don't know if Charlie Biler is still around, but I got my adapter from him a couple years ago. This is one of my UB's. I also have one on my UTS.

Thank you for the input. After checking further and making some calls, it looks like Henry Leasing in Bakersfield, CA has some KE5905-type metal canister oil filters. They have located a manufacturer that makes them and can supply them. I plan on trying them on my UB. Will follow with my observations in a few weeks.

Rich, those oil filter photos mean a great deal to me! Thank you!
For me and my OLDER tractor, I could modify a canister/housing hold-down nut, silicone it to the top of the filter, paint it semi-gloss black and pretend.
Very interesting.

On my R and Z the filters are at the bottom of the motor. I got the adapters from Charley, then spray the spin on filter orange. It blends right in with the tractor.

Yesss!!! That should be the 60A23 adapter J.W.
I don't know the filter number, would you care to share that and may I use your info/intel on another site?
For sharing purposes only. I'm no business man. ;-)
Sorry for the hijack Greg.
Thank you guys! :)
I know where I'm heading to show some options for the 21-32 Twin City tractors here and a UTS elsewhere.
And a bunch of other tractor owners that might see this using Purolater full-flow filter assy's..
I haven't attacked the 10% Pure Oil Later filters from before your time. Yet.
Wish someone would.

I have just repeated what I said a while ago !!!
I have posted messages before and for some reason you
yanks don't seem to believe me which is ok and fits in with what my late father said about US servicemen stationed at Shrewsbury during WW2

Not sure what brought that on.

I didn't see where anyone had doubted you.
I also didn't see where you gave the name and contact info for the firm you are referring to. That would be helpful. I already have what I need, so it doesn't affect me. But for those still looking it would help to provide as much information as possible.
Another thought is that it would probably be less expensive to purchase one in the states if possible to save on overseas shipping costs.

Just a thought.

The ones that I have are Carquest 85060. Also I have wrote down 1987 GMC 2500 350 motor will work.
Sorry, I didn't get back on here until now.

My father said guy's like you must be constipated. LOL.

I don't think anyone blatantly ignores you Derwen and I'm happy you guys have options for your MM tractors while facing the same filter issues as us yanks do over here.
I know you fellows enjoy your TC/MM tractors as much as we do! :)
Certainly not to argue but would you bat an eye ordering a Mexico made KE5905 oil filter from Bakersfield, California? The shipping may stun. Then again, maybe not.
I'm looking in here from outside looking for options Wait!
I'm going to have a look again at your posts!
I'd like to include your info in my thread on another site.
I'm muddling along, trying to put a list together of places in the US to get these filters and the options we have here on this side of the Atlantic. It never occurred to me people all over the world may look in on my thread by chance also.
Would or could you provide some more detailed info about places to contact in Ireland? I'd appreciate that.
Hehe, you folks have the Cooley distillery in the west, the Cooley peninsula in the east where no Cooley's live and a Cooley music and maybe tractor get together someplace there. That's my last name!
Not to poop on my US brothers but I bet those US serviceman stationed over there had been trained to be uber cool...
:)
JW, my files are updated with your added info. Thank you all from my little world!
Please excuse if my exuberance is a pester.
