Cylinder compression test on '53 UB

Does anyone know what is considered "good" numbers for compression on the 283 ci? I tested today and got 100-110 PSI for all four cylinders. I am assuming that is good enough for what I need. Read somewhere that when new, the engine would test at 130-150 PSI.

(quoted from post at 18:32:57 04/15/21) i thought mine was a bit higher but that is not bad.

OK, thanks. Seems to run OK with rebuilt carb and new plugs. Old plugs were totally carbon fouled. Glad not to have to do a major engine overhaul...yet.

It will depend on the heads you are using

My UB has 10A4209 heads. A chart I have shows them for a UB 5.5 to 1 compression ration and 95 to 115 compression pressure.

For 10A4210 heads shows 6.95 to 1 compression ratio and 140 - 160 compression pressure

The heads on my UB say "GE30Z" [manual says this is OK for gas engines at sea level to 4000 ft. above sea level]. Both blocks say "10A148A." Will consider the compression to be adequate for my needs as I do not think they are high compression heads. Thank you for your input.

(quoted from post at 13:17:57 04/16/21) GE30Z 6.4 to 1. 130-150 on good condition motor.
Thanks for the input. Tractor still has enough power for what I use it for so I will postpone further engine work until later.

Keep in mind that you will get
different readings between cold engine
and hot, open throttle or closed.
Also cranking speed

Yes, I probably did everything they say not to do when testing compression. Cold engine, closed throttle, full battery and whatever cranking speed it produced with all the plugs out. I was just glad to see numbers that were "somewhat OK." Really do not want to replace rings or do anything with valves unless absolutely necessary. Thank you for your input.
