Got a friend of a friend that has a jetstar 5 gas burner that is getting coolant in the oil pan. I haven't seen or worked on the tractor yet. Was wondering what all the things there engines are prone to. Im thinking head gasket or cracked head would be the cause for the coolant leaks. What's everyone idea what it could be?

It could likely be the water pump leaking coolant into the oil. It could also be a head gasket or a cracked head.

Not a problem. Many others have said similar things.

As said above, there is a chance that the coolant in the oil is due to a water pump seal leak. There is a drainage slot behind the water pump that is intended to keep coolant out of the oil when the seal leaks. Check to be certain the slot is open. It can get clogged with grease and dirt.

Is there a path directly into the block/oil pan from the slot you are talking about? My experience has always been the slot let's the colant seep to the outside of the block not the inside of the block.

Yes the slot lets the coolant seep out side the block. but if it is blocked then coolant goes in too oil pan. Also if that oil seal is wore it will let coolant pass too.

Just rebuilt on last week. Would have to be really worn to dump into crankcase. If oil seal goes they dump oil out. If water seal goes the also dump out weephole.

Not if the weep hole is plugged with hard grease. And they usually are. The water follows the shaft to the gear case area.
