UTS Water Pump & Oil Seal Replacement

Hello, I'm replacing the water pump seal on my UTS. I ordered the modern seal, the cover gasket, and the oil seal. I've having trouble removing the oil seal carrier (one book calls it the "accessory shaft sleeve." I removed the set screw from the side that is supposed to hold the sleeve in place.

Here's a picture of what I'm dealing with. There is some brass debris squished out over what I assume is the sleeve.

Looks like your shaft need replaced also.

You have to remove Item 31 in the parts illustration.
Also while you have that hub out face off the surface the water seal mates to in a lathe so you have a perfect surface for the seal.

Does the crank pulley need to be removed in order to remove the water pump housing (31)?

It has been so long I really don't remember. One of the toughest jobs is to get the lower hose off, unless you cut it and replace with a new more flexible one. I'm thinking after you get the cap screws out you can rotate the plate and remove it. You might have to move the pulley forward a little, I really don't remember. Actually once you remove the cap screws and bring the top forward the whole plate is very moveable. Also after you replace the unit readjust the screw for end play on the camshaft.

Crank pulley has to come off to remove timing cover. Been a while also.

We are not removing the timing cover just the plate over the water pump and camshaft.
