serial numbers

looking at several molines at auction and serial numbers don't match any of the numbers listed for the models in my yesterday tractors book of serial numbers can anyone explain to me how moline did there serial numbers?

Make certain you are looking at the tractor serial number plate
and not the one on the engine. Tractor plates are located on
either side of the transmission housing depending on the
model. Early models had them on the right. Later models on
the left.
