Best way to renew steering worm and bearings.

Trying to tighten up the steering on my UTU.
The Old bearings on the worm were shot. I have a new set to replace them with, but the steering worm is pitted and has a lip on the edge. What is the best way to refurbish these old steering gear boxes?
Maybe send the shaft out and have the bearing surface ground. If they grind in too far, I might have to shim the bearing cups?

I would love to turn down the steering worm for a standard tapered roller bearing, but the bearing cup they use is such an odd size (Timken 32C) that a new bearing cup would not fit in the bore of the front axle.

I really don't want to put in new OEM bearings on that rough pitted worm, wish those bearing surfaces were replaceable. Anybody every think of trying to cut apart a new tapered roller bearing to use the inner bearing surface and cut the worm to fit it.

We use these tractors for our pumpkin patch, and they actually get about 150 hours a year on them. So I would really like to renew the steering to factory fresh cause any little bit of friction adds up at the end of a day...

Thanks for any ideas.
