Tough, reliable tractors. Weight is similar to a Farmall H, but a little more power than an H. About 35 PTO horsepower. What would you like to know about them? I grew up on one, and still have one.

Hi
I have a question. Can I take the gear
shifter lever out? It is broke and would be
alot easier to weld if it can be removed.
Looks like a screw or something on back of
housing. If I remove it can I pull shifter
out?

Never had the one out of my ZA, but if it's like my U, then you need to pull the top cover off the transmission. There is a snap ring underneath which must be removed, then the lever will come out the top.

That is a rivet that is in the housing. It fits in a groove in the shift lever inside the transmission cover. Yes, the cover has to come off to get the shift lever out. There is a spring and snap ring holding it in, if I remember correctly.

I had to replace the worn out plate the shifter rests up against on my ZAU. Remove the trans cover and you will see a large spring that holds the shifter up to the plate. Zip tie 3 sides of that spring off before removing--much easier to replace. Shifter will drop out. Good luck.
