g450 with loader PTO question

so I got my g450/oliver 1365 operators manual today.in the section on the pto it says never leave pto engaged when not in use. With my tractor It seems I have to have the pto engaged to run the loader hydraulic pump mounted above the pto shaft. Is this correct?am I harming the pto leaving it engaged while running the loader.the manual makes no mention of this.thanks

You are correct. Loader pump
operates off of upper PTO shaft.
Unless loader leaks down badly: you
can raise bucket to desired height
and disengage PTO if running at road
speeds. Not turning pump allows
hydraulic fluid to be a little
cooler. No highly significant
difference, just minor. Also can do
that if hooked to brush hog type
mower. Then mower isn't turning when
not in use

Send me your U. S. mail address and I will send you a copy of the Oliver bulletin. If I remember correctly you can take out a thrust bearing if you don't follow instructions. J.

when running the bush hog should I have the pto lever up and the gearbox lever to the left?

Sounds like the same issue that one of the Allis tractors had.
Constant PTO engagement led to wearing on the engine
thrust bearing. Their fix involved installing a second thrust
bearing Externally against the front of the Crankshaft.

The key is to not leave the PTO clutch lever in the disengaged or up position, doesn't hurt for the PTO to run. What the book probably means is not to leave the PTO in the engaged position and then raise the PTO clutch lever up to shut off the PTO.When the PTO clutch lever is left up it puts pressure on the flywheel and crankshaft which will result in wearing out the thrust washers then it'll wear the crank against the block ruining both. That had been done to my Oliver 1365 4WD when I bought it,required a replacement block, crank, thrust washers, etc.
