G1000 dash gauge lights

What is the purpose/function of the "power supply" for the dash gauge lights. Were the lighting elements in the original gauges special or something?

They used a technology called "Electroluminescent Lighting", as did Mopar "back in the day".

I don't have a link to the MM system at hand, the links below are to some Mopar info on a similar system.

Electroluminescent lights were banned in late 60's. They emitted a bluish glow and was supposedly emitting small amounts of radiation. Power supply steps up voltage into few hundred volts to illuminate the backlight(plate) of the gauges. Used on G900,M670s,G1000, U302's and some Jetstar 3's. Massey tractors of same era also used.

This is NOT a criticism, just trying to learn... "Electroluminescent lights were banned in late 60's. They emitted a bluish glow and was supposedly emitting small amounts of radiation."

Can you provide a link to any further information on that?

Banned by US FDC think it is called. Around same time Chrysler quit using. Read it somewhere when I was drawing up a schematic of
the power supply. Probably caused electrical interference more than anything. Voltage wasn't all that high. May have been material
in gauges.
