G1000 combustion in radiator

I bought a G1000 with an issue. The former owner did an inframe on it and had the heads welded and rebuilt.
It now gets combustion in the cooling system. He was a fairly smart guy that rebuilt it and he had the heads off and retested and they checked out OK he said he had some coolant in number 5 cylinder ..never has had any in the oil
I haven't looked at tearing anything apart yet and just wanted some MM experts thoughts on this. If I got impatient I would change the rear head and cylinder and be done with it. Someone told the former owner the problem is in the cylinder wall

It is a long shot , but I have seen it happen. A defective gasket especially a copper clad one, can leak compression in to the cyl but not leak water back. The gasket in one spot can act like a flapper valve. It will leak 100 plus pounds of air one direction but hold 7 pounds of water the other direction, and water is thicker. But you said there was some coolant in number 5. Might depend one how long it sits between starts. Does it miss on number 5 when it is first started? Cracks and leaks expand when they are heated up. When they cool down you can't find them. If you take the head off I would recommend to heat it in an oven to 400 degrees before it is tested.

Exhaust in coolant, coolant in combustion chamber is cracked head, bad head gasket, bad mating surfaces between head and block or cracked cylinder part of the block. I have never experienced a cracked cylinder portion of a block. I rarely see a bad head gasket. Usually even the worst relationship between head and block is taken up with a good gasket and some sort of gasket material. Cracked head is the daily fare for me and I suspect it's the same for you. I would go after that #5 and 6 cylinder head since the PO gave you the hint. I'm suspicious of cylinder head crack repairs especially if the cracks are around a valve seating surface. I like Del's idea of heat when pressure checking. Best of luck!

I have the same problem on my G1ooo. No coolant in oil but it's going somewhere and can smell it in exhaust. All I have is mm's and it was always a cracked head, so no water in oil is stumping. Going to tear open and hoping its a gasket. also going to run dye in it to maybe help find it.

705, had the same problem on a UB a few years ago. I could smell the coolant in the exhaust. Once pulled a spark plug and with a flashlight I could see a few drops of green anti-freeze dangling from a valve. I have NEVER been fortunate enough to have a problem with coolant in oil, or exhaust in coolant, or smell of burning coolant be a simple problem with a head gasket, as much as I wanted it to be. Always a cracked cylinder head. Farmall 806, cracked head, Case 400, cracked head, MM U, cracked head. Just bad luck? I don't think so. Hope you get luckier!
