Jet Star Distributor

I Have a 1961 Jet Star and I would like to put electronic ignition on it. I am 200 miles away from it and would like to know what kind of distributor it has, (Delco, etc.) I would like to buy the conversion before I go there the next time. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

It was born 12 volt positive ground with Delco generator and distributor and turns counter clockwise

Is it still positive ground with generator, or converted to alternator and negative ground?

According to my notes,

Pertronix Ignitor 1143 for Negative ground. It is for Delco 4 cyl CCW rotation 12 Volt Neg ground 4 Star, 445, Jet Star and others.

Book shows 1145A for Four Star. It appears to be for original positive ground

If it were mine I would use negative ground. If still a generator polarize it for negative, then if you later convert to alternator you don't need to buy another expensive electronic unit.

You do not need a super duper high voltage coil. Original or less expensive NAPA IC14SB or equivalent will work fine.

To change to negative ground, the -- post on coil goes to side of distributor. Turn on lights and/or ignition, engine not running. With negative ground ammeter should swing negative. Install battery with negative to frame.

Thank you very much. This is exactly what I was looking for! Now I don't need to drive there and get this info.
