I have a '49 UTS and a '56 U Special.
I pull with both in our local stock tractor pulls.
Tractors must be stock displacement, and mist use parts that came on the tractor from factory. That said, a bit of an overbore is ok depending on what pistons are available.
The UTS has GE30E heads with new valves that I spent way too much on before I knew better.
The U Special has 10A4210 heads and makes decent power, but not enough to always be competitive.
My questions are:
- What pistons are available for a low budget build? (both tractors have stock worn bores right now)
- Can I shave these heads to get a reasonable bump in compression?
- Can I shave the blocks to bump compression as well? Or leave the block gaskets out? (Not sure how far the pistons are down in the bores....)
I have access to a machine shop at work, I have a sonic tester etc so I'm willing to try shaving some parts if it helps.
Thanks!!
