My Dad's first tractor; '51 Moline Z is back on the farm. It hadn't run in a number of years. New battery and some gas; it fired right up. New project.

Looks nice and straight. Congratulations on getting it back!

Are you going to clean it up and leave the original patina, or are you planning to go further?

Plan to fix mechanical issues (fuel/wiring/seals) first, then will look at next step. Tin is good--surface rust. A couple "farmer fixes" need correcting to original.

Thanks for the reminder. Been sitting in a shed for past several years. Prior to it leaving the farm, for years, my Dad had it hooked to a feed grinder where it would not fit completely in the crib barn. Growing up, it was the main tractor for plowing, disking, and baling hay. Still can't believed as a 10 year old I could hang on to that steering wheel on the first pass of disking plowed ground.

Yes, tractor outside for years in my case led to gallons of water in the rear...not getting to it in time, it froze and cracked one of the axle housings (I repaired it with JB Weld). Never underestimate the power of ice (there are no freeze plugs in the tranny/axle housings) :)
