'49 R pulley

We were watching some YouTube videos and saw an R plowing and the pulley wasn't spinning? Can it be turned off? Ours spins as long as clutch is engaged. Thanks

Mine does too. I took mine off. Now just the shaft spins. Perhaps the newer ones were made so you could shut them off. I know the later U's were that way, but have never been around a newer R.

1953 and later U's could be disengaged. Probably same on R. Was someone looking for one for a Z lately.

We have a 1950 RTU and the pulley runs anytime the clutch is engaged. Removed pulley and put cover over end of shaft for parades and tractor drives.

In my life time of using lettered MM tractors, Z, U, UB Special all spun with clutch engaged. GBD had a lever behind the pulley to disengage the belt pulley. Switched it on and off many tines grinding feed in the 60?s.

1953 UTS/GTB and all 1954-56 U diesel could be disengaged. ZAS and ZB book shows clutched belt pulley setup as well.

I may depend on the year it was made. My '48 RTU has a lever under the left side of the dash tower that engages/disengages the pto.
