So, I am replacing the exhaust manifold, heat riser, and muffler for a '53 UB. Question: Does the muffler attach directly to the heat riser or is there some "extension" required? The old assembly had an old rusty extension between the heat riser and the muffler. I have seen it both ways. What was the original design? Thanks.

On my 53 UB the original style muffler sets directly on the heat riser.
