Was a Minneapolitan most of my life & I remember driving past the plant a few times in the 60s but unfortunately was never inside. I recall a few former MM employees being hired in the defense plant I worked in around 1969-70.

Those pictures are a neat piece of history!..have
you guys seen the MM apartartments in Hopkins?
I've heard they have molines on display in the
lobby including the udlx you can call ahead and
they will show them to you.

PH, a friend of mine stopped there a few months back, and I posted some photos here.

The Lake Street at Minnehaha Avenue plant has been replaced by a Target store, all basically down the street from Abbott Northwester Hospital, where I often have to take my grown son.

Had no idea about the Hopkins apartments and their tractors. I don't get over that way often as we live on the East side of town. I would like to see their UDLX. I read somewhere that MM made 150 of the UDLX, but could not sell 50 of them and they were sent back to the factory for rework into conventional U's. So, only 100 went out into circulation.

I remember this plant very well. Grew up only a few miles from the plant. I learned that my grandpa, an immigrant from Sweden, who worked at the Lake Street plant had to become a US citizen to work there during WWII. They were doing some contract work for the US Military and he never applied for US citizenship. I believe the Governor of MN got involved to rush through the paperwork.
Grandpa had four sons, all of them served the military.

That happened a lot back then, My grandpa married a Bremer gal, his younger brother married her older sister! Lots of double cousins. You ever hear about how many tractors a day they assembled there, at the Lake Street facility, I used to drive by there daily, they usually had 1 tractor sitting outside!
