UTS Waterpump Question

Is this too far gone for a good seal? I read where the surface could be turned. If so, how much.

Thanks.

Sir,
You are not showing the seal face. That is the important machined surface. The surfaces you are showing really are just along for the ride. Generally you just need to take off ten thousandths to get the surface back. I have turned off up to fifty thou with no problem. The #KE534A seal has a lot of spring action and can push a lot more than it has to. I personally turn until there are no felt radial marks left. Concentric marks do not count on pump seals.
If you are going to turn the #KE524A housing; I suggest you use a M2 bit using positive rake and keep the surface at 80 microinch finish. I personally turn to a 40 microinch finish. Just make sure to never leave any lubricants that will ruin the pump seal face.
If the pressed in #KE525 bronze bearing is wobbly; I would replace that while it was in the lathe. Just remember to not use brass or bearing bronze when changing the bearing. The original Oilite material bearing is what should be used.
Take care.
Charlie
