Putting spark plug engine into G diesel. Running into a little problem, the area where the starter mounts is 1/2? thicker then that area on gas engine. So when diesel starter is mounted on gas engine, the starter gear is already in contact with the ring gear before the starter even engages. Doesn?t look like gas starter will work with diesel flywheel, so what are people doing to overcome this, making a 1/2? spacer plate to move starter out? Thanks

I'm guessing the 605 didn't have a starter on it when you got it. I would think the best right thing to do is to find a 605 gas starter.

At this point, if you really want to mount the diesel starter in there, you need to know if the bendix on it has the same number of teeth as the correct starter for that gas flywheel. If not you probably will have issues with it either binding up or shucking teeth off the ring gear.

does your clutch mount up? That was a big issue for me putting a 403 in a UTS-diesel.

Also, will there be enough clearance in the bell housing for the engine to bolt up with the starter mounted on it. (That was another issue when putting a 403 in a UTS-diesel.)

Well I was planning on using the diesel flywheel,
I have read a few times to use that, it?ll be less
headache then mounting clutch gear from diesel
Flywheel onto 605 flywheel. And I just figured if using
The diesel flywheel then I probably should just
use that starter too, to like you said avoid binding.
I?m gonna bolt up engine, with flywheel mounted
but not the starter just to double check flywheel
Lines up, and go from there. I might see if I can
Take the 1/2 off the flywheel where the ring gear
mounts, and just simply slide that back further.
Thoughts? Thanks for your response. I put 403s
in 3 U?s. Those were easy compared to this,
I just welded 403 ring gear on stock U flywheel.
