Water leak at the 2 O ring on the water pump sleeve

I recently rebuilt my jet star water pump, with help from this Forum. That went well. The problem I am now having is the 2 "O" ring on the sleeve
from the WP to the engine block won't seal.I finally got it to stop leaking while cold but as the engine warmed up they began to leak again.
Relieved the pressure but still leaked. There must be a secret to getting them to seal. I did replace both o rings and cleaned sleeve ends.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Jim

I usually change both O rings. If tube is at all rusty, replace. I always used sealant on orings like Gasket Goo.

Thanks, guess I better get some Gasket Goo. Don't believe I ever heard of it. I did replace both rings, but I just used Vaseline. Guess I better get a new sleeve first before I pull it down again. Any suggestions on where to get one?

Ok, I have some RTV silicone, I will try that. if that doesn't work I will order a new sleeve and try again.
Thanks for all the help

refer123,
Normally when the #10A10008 5.25" water tube leaks; I tell the customer to put two new #10A5956 'O' rings in. Make sure to use a metal brush and clean the groove in the pump plate and head. Then lubricate the groove with silicone. Never use anything with petroleum in it.Grease, Permatex, and most RTV sealants will attack the 'O' rings.

If your water tube is pitted or has scale; it must be removed by bead blasting or polished by lathe turning. Hand cleaning will put ripples in the surface and the tube will not seal. A lot of water tubes are too small in diameter to make good contact with the rings. If the tube diameter is not above 1.372", it must be replaced. A new tube is less than twenty five bucks and trying to build up an old tube is a real pain. Make sure there is a good chamfer on the ends so the tube does not tear at the rings.

Have used Permatex for years on all my 206's gas or diesel. Never had a leak. Use it with new tubes as well as old ones.
