Jet Star water pump repair?

I am trying to replace the bearing and seal assy, in the jet star water pump.
I am having a real problem getting the Spring Lock out of the pump. I believe someone replaced the original spring with a wire. There was a little piece of it sticking out of each sides of the inspection hole. I have been soaking it in rust buster and Kroil oil and Blaster for a week. While tapping on the shaft, back and forth, finally got some movement on the wire. Could not pull on it so I was tapping on it figuring it would push around. No luck, I now believe it may have been pushed in from each side. I am open for any suggestions.
Thank you
Jim

Jim Good luck, we've sold/installed NEW pumps for a long time. Takes too much time to repair the old ones. Selling new pumps for $105 while supplies, 920 295 3278, River Dale Farms, Dale

I had one a few years ago that the wire was broken off & I couldn't get to it to remove so I cut the bearing out with a torch, split the outer race & got it apart. I was advised to use loc-tite to hold the new bearing in place instead of a wire.

I broke the wire off in mine years ago. (before I had a torch.) I forced some kind of stiff wire in the slot with a hammer and vice grips,
if I recall correctly and it pushed the old wire out ahead of it.

My impeller had a pretty bad shoulder for the seal to go against. Back then, my cousin the auto mechanic pressed a 5/8 shaft in the impeller
and chucked it in his valve grinder and ground the shoulder back smooth and true. His grinder was military surplus, he bought it from the
supply depot when he was stationed in France in the 50s, so it could chuck a valve with a 5/8" stem. He's gone now, and I no longer have
access to his tools.

Thanks, the torch worked great. ended up replacing the impeller also. all works great. The problem now is getting the 2 o rings to seal on the sleeve between the pump and engine. there must be trick to this. I finally moved it enough to get it to stop when filling but as soon as it heated up they would leak.
Whats the secret to this?
Thanks

No secret, clean out the groves, wire brush the water tube. New O rings, and if the parts are not smooth and in good shape, put on a coating of silicon sealer.
