M5 diesel standard

Hey guys,

Found a (possible) gem in the rough today that has me slightly confused. It's an M5 diesel, with a standard front end. Boy, did I ever get excited! It's serial number 17200870. But, according to my books, it's not a true standard. Excitement deflated. So, now I'm wondering if there are other differences than the front axle and back tire size between a regular M5 and a standard. Should I consider it a standard or regular M5?

Next question; What other models have a rear axle compatible with an M5? The drawbar frame broke on this one, taking the front drawbar mount and a big chuck of the bottom of the rear axle case with it. Need to find a donor axle.

'Nother question; How hard is it to find engine parts for the 336 diesel? The exhaust is covered, but this tractor has been sitting in the bush for at least 25 years. Probably seized.

Other than that it's pretty straight. Just need to figure out if it's worth getting revved up about or not.

Thanks guys!

How many M5s would be interested in? I have 3 regular M5s, 1LP, 2 diesels good for parts. 1 of the diesels could be fixed and used. They are missing various parts. There in Texas.

The cost to ship anything from Texas to Alberta would kill me. I wish I could, but my job ain't quite good enough.

Standard M5 diesel very common in Canada. I have a couple wrecked ones as well as a running unit. two have 18.4 x 34 and other 30 inch tires. M602 rear end as well as 5 Star the same. D336 motor is the same blocks and head as the D504 - 6 cylinder in G1000's, Massey 97, G705.706,707 etc. Early M5 used Bosch pump and later ones were upgrade to Roosa Master.

There is no difference between a std or row crop M5 other than the axle. The 5 star was the last MM that they seperated front axle types by serial #. At least you didnt think it was a wheatland like most people.

Good Evening,

Your message indicates you have some standard tractors. I'm I reading it correctly that you have a 5 star standard rear end?

Best Regards,
Murray
