Thanks all for allowing me in. Newbie, and just trying to get all the toys hooked up and running on my MM Jet Star...Can anyone point me in the right direction, as far as how I get the pto to turn off and on...???It seems to be running right now, but it sure will make it tough, to run a post hole digger, if it won't shut off...Not many MM people in my area, local farms are mostly green...JD..if you know what I mean...anyway, thanks for any help that someone might have..

No expert here, but most pto's have a little drag when off and might lightly turn. At times the machine will have enough resistance that will hold it still. OR, if not used in long time, maybe the plates are all kinda stuck together and just needs something to hold resistance to break them free?? If was regularly used, whould think a gloved hand could stop it when off if free plates. Otherwise, tear-down is quite involved, believe whole tele-flow and upper gear cover has to come off to work on it.

Thanks glgrumpy....I'm still a "lot" lost...lol...I don't find any lever or knob that would operate pto...so my next guess is the clutch.??I know it doesn't matter, but the loader works, and 3 point works...but just not sure about pto...guess i could hook up bush hog, and see what happens,,,maybe that will free things up..any other tips are appreciated...excited about tractor, but don't want to break anything...to tear anything up...lol...not to mention, being safe

I believe there should be a lever to the left of the seat that operates the pto. pushing it forward engages it.

Alan K is right the lever should be the the left rear of the seat. My owners manual and parts manual shows nothing different for a jetstar. But I would use something other than a gloved hand that glgrumpy mentioned(sorry), but use a 2X4 board or heavy stick wedged against the drawbar support and pto. chris

Thanks for the answers, I had one guy tell me that lever was for high/low range, making my tractor a 10 speed...so I haven't really done anything with it..do I need to use the clutch, when I engage/disengage pto(lever to left of seat)....Thanks again for everyones help

No just move the lever either way no foot clutch needed. Your high/low(ampli-torq) lever is to the right of the steering wheel if so equipped. Check ebay lately they had an owners manual listed will help with the operation, servicing of your tractor, and questions you might have. We're here to help. chris

If you click on manuals at the top of this site you can get the JenSales copies of manuals for the same price as JenSales or slightly cheaper. They have most of the Moline manuals as copies.

Ok, think I have the off/on pto thing covered...when disengaged, with tractor not running, i can turn the pto by gloved hand, when engaged, can't seem to turn it...now to hook up that new pto shaft, and see if I can do any bush hoggin...must be only a five speed, no lever to the right of the steering wheel(ampli-torc)..also, shinnery, been looking at manuels, and don't know which ones to order...I don't want to duplicate by ordering 3 different ones...any suggestions......as you all can tell...a real rookie with tractors here..... :?

I should have the parts manual and operator manual for your tractor. Email me the serial number (right side of transmission case) and I can make sure. The manuals are originals, but in great shape.

Here is a picture of my 61 jetstar
The photo shows the t/a on this side of the tractor, the gear shift lever and then on the other side of the the seat is the PTO lever, moves back to engage

Hey thanks..pics sure do help....mine must be a straight 5 speed, no t/a...but now i know where the pto lever is...I'm just being very cautious..in previous post, i could engage/disengage pto, with tractor off, but when tractor running, and pto disengaged, i tried stopping the pto, with 2 x 4, and no go........so, still hesitant about hooking up bush hog, if i can shut pto down...for saftey's sake..but thanks again,...things are slowly looking clearer...

Ok, thanks all for the help.......hooked up new pto shaft, tsc model, mowed some pasture, pto seems to be engaging/disengaging......still some drag when disengaged.....hopefully this doesn't affect post hole digger.....anyway, I think i need to shorten pto shaft a hair, I broke, what I presume to be, a shear pin......and wasn't cutting anything at the time, just engaging pto......and I'm still looking for any recomendations as to which owners manuels to order, just don't want to duplicate....To the moderators, should I switch this to another topic, start a new thread, or am i ok here????...Thanks again for everyones help ...hope you don't tire of me, as I'm just learning about this, and any other farm tractor

All tractor brands have drag on the PTO for the most part. When disengaged they will turn slowly, but never try and stop with your hand while tractor is running. Use a block of wood and pry to stop while it is disengaged. Do some more brush hogging and it may stop on its own someday or probably not. Using the post hole digger, when the auger touches the ground and pto is off, it will stop turning, then engage pto and press down with the 3pt hitch. also park tractor with PTO off and auger resting on ground so it will stop turning. Don't want it to grab someone who is standing to close

Thanks for the info, the pto does have some drag, but as I've been learning, while doing some bush hogging, if i drop the mower down, with pto off, the shaft will stop...haven't gotten to the post hole digger yet..headed outta town for a few days, but when i get back, I'm sure i'll get it going.....Thanks again all, i'll try and post pics later, but it pretty much looks like the pic from leake, in this thread....
